“May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you’re wonderful, and don’t forget to make some art — write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself.”—Neil Gaiman (via @johannal) (via quote-book)
“All these things have you said of beauty.
Yet in truth you spoke not of her but of needs unsatisfied,
And beauty is not a need but an ecstasy.
It is not a mouth thirsting nor an empty hand stretched forth,
But rather a heart enflamed and a soul enchanted.
It is not the image you would see nor the song you would hear,
But rather an image you see though you close your eyes and a song you hear though you shut your ears.”—Beauty (excerpt) from The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran (via melancholynotes)
the cold water splashes down my head and hair, awakening and soothing my tense nerves. i blink away the droplets that cling to my lashes and tilt my head back for water on my face. it pounds on my shoulders, too, leaving them more than clean. i step under the water for on last rinse, it washes away the last of the dregs and woes. i step out and touch my wrinkled finger tips to my lips and smile, as i dry the droplets, get into warm clothes and climb into bed as my imagination fills my slumber.
